General Description of the Position

Delaware State University is seeking two Program Specialists for the Education Department to support the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT)/Alternative Routes to Certification (ARTC) program. Applicants must demonstrate: 1) deep familiarity with teaching and learning in Delaware schools, 2) experience with collecting and analyzing data on student learning and using that data to inform decision making, and 3) familiarity with alternative routes certification processes and teaching students who are career changers. Program Specialists may teach both undergraduate and graduate students within their fields of expertise.

Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Essential Functions
The following are the functions essential to performing this job:

  1. Create and execute a recruitment plan.
  2. Build and maintain partnerships with K-12 and community organizations across the state of Delaware.
  3. Work effectively across the DSU community for the recruitment of undergraduate students into the program.
  4. Attend and participate in Delaware Department of Education meetings pertaining to ARTC.
  5. Teach courses across the curriculum based on consultation with program directors and department chair.
  6. Develop and implement a Praxis preparation plan for the recruitment of prospective MAT/ARTC teacher candidates.
  7. Collect, analyze, and report on program assessment results to inform program development.
  8. Work collaboratively with the Admissions Office to facilitate a smooth transition into the program for teacher candidates.
  9. Oversee the completion of required paperwork associated with ARTC teacher candidates, ensuring compliance with program, state, and local district requirements.
  10. Provide guidance to teacher candidates on internal processes to help them persist towards degree completion.
  11. Able to travel across the state of Delaware for necessary program functions, including recruitment events, state and district meetings.
  12. Be available on a regular basis to students on matters pertaining to the students’ program of study.
  13. Monitor students’ progress through the program with accurate records and timely advisement.
  14. Participate in curriculum and assessment development and analyze data routinely to study student growth and impact. This includes but is not limited to the reporting required through CAEP accreditation reviews, SPA reviews, and departmental data days.
  15. Participate in syllabi development and/or revision. Improve, update, enrich, and revise courses periodically to keep them current.
  16. To demonstrate and maintain professional competence and knowledge of current best practices and research in Education, including culturally responsive teaching, and strive to keep informed of contemporary developments in the field of specialization through reading and research, related workshops, etc.
  17. Treat all students fairly, impartially, and with understanding.
  18. Accept willingly a fair share of Departmental and University duties.
  19. Adhere to deadlines and schedules established for the timely reporting of matters related to student registration and record-keeping.
  20. Be familiar with the mission of DSU as a Historically Black College and University (HBCU).

  8. Capacity to plan, establish priorities, and handle multiple tasks and projects within a set timeframe.
  9. Engage in ongoing training related to job functions.

Qualification Standards

  1. Education: Masters in an education related field (one or more degrees in education content areas or specialization specifically).
  2. Experience using Blackboard or another learning management system as well as the ability to develop and instruct on an on-line teaching platform is highly desirable.
  3. Experience as a certified teacher in an education setting.
  4. Knowledge of current best practice in the field of education.
