Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Teach assigned pedagogy, theory and/or clinical courses
  2. Participate in curriculum and assessment development.
  3. Participate in syllabi development and or revision.
  4. Participate on University/ Department /Professional committees
  5. Engage in grant writing and scholarly activity.
  6. Demonstrate and maintain professional competence and knowledge of subject matter
  7. Meet each class as scheduled.
  8. Maintain congruency with course descriptions, syllabus, and the University Catalog.
  9. Maintain office hours to counsel and advise students.
  10. Within a reasonable time provide students evaluations of their academic and/or clinical performance.
  11. Participate in curriculum and/or assessment development per accreditation regulatory requirements
  12. Participate in other assigned duties needed for the operation of the Department.
  13. Coordinate Didactic approved courses(s).
  14. Participate in Community outreach.
  15. Research within the area of clinical expertise (beyond thesis and dissertation).

The candidate must possess (and demonstrate) following skills and abilities to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations.

  1. Medical-Surgical nursing with significant clinical experience in acute care practice.
  2. Must be able to teach across the nursing curriculum.
  3. Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of students within a university setting.
  4. Strong ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  5. Demonstrate the ability to work as a team to create innovative educational experiences and provide an environment where students are partners in learning.

Qualification Standards

  1. Education: Master’s degree in nursing and Medical- Surgical Nursing Certification required; a doctorate in nursing preferred.
  2. Required experience: 3 to 5 years of clinical nursing experience in medical-surgical nursing acute care setting.
  3. Other preferences: Clinical experiences in community health and or community outreach initiatives
  4. Experience with classroom presentations
