Job SummaryThe School of Teaching and Learning invites applications for one tenure-track position beginning August 16, 2025. We are seeking qualified candidates for a Secondary Education Generalist position with expertise in educational assessment. Content area expertise is open.

The Secondary Education Program is particularly interested in applicants who have expertise in assessment of student learning and one or more of the following: secondary classroom teaching practices, teacher professional development, education policy, or psychometrics.

Responsibilities include scholarly research/publishing, effective undergraduate and graduate teaching, and service. The individual in this position is expected to teach 3 courses each semester in the School of Teaching and Learning. The Secondary Generalist teaches an introduction to the teaching profession course and a general methods and assessment course with an embedded clinical at Illinois State University Laboratory Schools. While undergraduate courses are the focus of this position, there may be opportunities to teach graduate level courses.

The position is a nine-month, tenure track appointment with the possibility of summer teaching. Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience. The locus of annual evaluation, tenure, and promotion in rank will be in School of Teaching and Learning. A comprehensive benefits package is included.

Required Qualifications1) Terminal degree or ABD in Curriculum and Instruction, Teacher Education, or a closely related field with a completion date prior to August 16, 2025.
2) Minimum of three academic years of classroom teaching experience in secondary settings (9th-12th grade).
3) Interest in or achievement of scholarly research and publication in educational assessment.
4) Ability to teach undergraduate secondary courses and graduate courses in the School of Teaching and Learning.
5) State law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position.
