Job Description
Tennessee State University College of Agriculture invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor-Precision Agriculture at the McMinnville Research Center in McMinnville, Tennessee. This position is a 12 month, tenure track appointment that will begin in August 2024.
Job duties include the following:
Develop and design innovative sensing and automation methods, tools, and systems to improve production efficiency in the nursery industry. Examples of applications and technologies include but are not limited to: remote sensing; unmanned aerial vehicles; precision systems for production practices; smart sensor design; computer vision; GPS/GIS data for site specific management; wireless sensor networks; data science/analytics for production input optimization; decision support systems; machine learning and autonomous/robotic systems.
The successful candidate will be expected to secure extramural funding and to collaborate effectively with NRC scientists, industry stakeholders, and research and extension faculty in the College of Agriculture. In addition, the successful candidate will mentor graduate students by chairing and serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis and dissertation research to completion, exhibiting scholarship through recognized peer-reviewed outlets, and providing leadership to the profession through state and national professional society participation. In addition, departmental, college, and university committee service will be expected.Minimum Qualifications
An earned PhD from an accredited institution in biological systems engineering, agricultural engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field at the time of appointment.
Experience in precision agriculture research or Extension.
Knowledge of current and emerging technologies in precision agriculture.
Experience in agronomic and/or horticultural cropping systems.
Demonstrated ability to communicate with stakeholders, industry personnel, government agencies, and to work within interdisciplinary research groups that are cross-cutting among science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines is essential.Special Instructions to Applicants
