The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, a division of the University of Virginia located in Southwest Virginia, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Information Technology and Data Analytics at the assistant professor level in the Business and Economics Department as a part of the larger Analytics initiative. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to emerging programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels that are essential for regional and national economic growth.

Responsibilities

  1. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses online and face-to-face formats in information technology, information systems, information security, management of information technology, data analytics, data science and related subjects in the Department of Business and Economics.
  2. Regular teaching load is 4-4.
  3. Develop new courses and curriculum.
  4. Engage in meaningful research activities.
  5. Advise and mentor students in their academic and career development.
  6. Participate in service activities within the department and broader university community including substantial committee work.
  7. Collaborate with industry partners to facilitate internships and experiential learning opportunities.

Qualifications

  1. Ph.D. in Information Systems, Management of Information Systems, Information Technology, Information Technology Management, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Data Analytics, or a closely related field from an accredited university is required.
  2. Ph.D. needs to be completed before August 20, 2025.
  3. Demonstrated potential for effective teaching and research.
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Programming skills such as in Python or R.
  6. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom and workplace.
  7. Industry experience in information technology management and/or professional certifications related to cybersecurity is a plus.
  8. The ability to teach cybersecurity courses is a plus.
  9. Ph.D. from an AACSB accredited school is a plus.
