The University of South Carolina is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor of Music Industry Studies. This 9-month, tenure-track position will begin August 16, 2025.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach multiple music industry courses each semester; assist in overseeing student internships; work with campus and industry partners. Develop and maintain a profile within the profession and develop and maintain contacts with relevant professionals and professional organizations. Keep up to date with stylistic and pedagogical developments in the field. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in music or a closely related field required. Five years of professional experience in the music industry required. Candidates must possess a broad knowledge of the music industry, a demonstrated commitment to collaborative work, and a passion for recruiting and mentoring students, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills.

GENERAL INFORMATION: The University of South Carolina in Columbia, founded in 1801, is the flagship Carnegie Level R1 research institution of a seven-campus, fully accredited, state-supported system. The School of Music is an independent unit on campus and a dynamic leader for music and music education in the United States with a full-time faculty of 56, and a student population of 475.

The Bachelor of Science in Music Industry Studies has been offered at the University of South Carolina since 2020, and currently has an enrollment of 82 students. The program is built on the foundation of experiential learning, with students gaining real-world experience under the guidance of faculty and mentors. On-campus partnerships include the operation of Greene Street Records, as well as managing, marketing, and production in a variety of live performance venues. Off-campus partnerships place students with Danny Wimmer Presents festivals, National Association of Music Merchandisers (NAMM), Yamaha Corporation, the Gretsch Foundation, GreaterThan Distribution, and Virgin/Universal Music Group.
