Job Description:

Baker University invites qualified candidates to apply for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Communication Studies with a focus on interpersonal conflict management and an open specialization in the Department of History, Culture, and Society (HCS). We invite candidates who also have experience or specialization in teaching a variety of disciplines within communication such as, but not limited to, interpersonal, organizational, rhetoric, or related area. The position is a 4-4 load. Faculty members at Baker are also expected to participate in academic advising of students, serve the university through committee work, and demonstrate a commitment to continued professional development.

This position is scheduled to begin in August 2025.

Job Requirements:

A PhD in Communication Studies is required at the time of appointment.

The HCS Department is multi-disciplinary and offers majors in Sociology, Communication Studies, History, and Religious Studies, as well as minors in Conflict Management and Museum Studies among others. Baker University began its liberal arts tradition in 1858 along the Santa Fe Trail as the first university in Kansas. The campus is located 45 minutes west of Kansas City and 15 minutes south of Lawrence, Kansas. The university also houses two historic museums: the Old Castle Museum and the Quayle Bible Collection.
