The School of Art, Art History and Design invites applications for a full-time tenure track position in Ceramics at the Assistant Professor level beginning with the 2025-26 academic year. The successful candidate will teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in B.A., B.F.A., M.A. and M.F.A programs. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

We seek a dynamic artist-educator to contribute to our vibrant and historic ceramics community who will work in tandem with internationally recognized faculty and staff to advance contemporary ceramics education and pedagogy in one of the finest academic ceramic facilities world-wide.

The successful candidate will be a passionate educator with an active studio practice and proven success building and participating in rigorous academic communities. Candidates shall be able to mentor graduate and undergraduate students through critical dialog and conceptual development. Significant professional experience in the field is preferred in the form of gallery and/or museum exhibitions, grant writing, and/or other professional pursuits. Strong written communication and organizational skills are required, as well as an ability to complement existing faculty strengths and studio practices.

The successful applicant will teach two classes per semester, serve on graduate thesis committees, advise BFA majors and honors students, participate in departmental service, and assist with recruiting students to our graduate program by being a visible advocate for excellence in Ceramics at The University of Iowa. Education Requirement:MFA or equivalent terminal degree in Ceramics in hand by the start date

Required Qualifications:

· MFA with teaching beyond graduate school

· Demonstrated evidence of sustained professional activity of high merit and recognition at the national level

· Strong organizational and writing skills

· Success working in community with other artists and scholars

· Competency with ceramic materials including clay and glaze formulation

· Strong knowledge of ceramic history and contemporary art

Desirable Qualifications:

· Two years of teaching experience beyond graduate school

· Experience teaching and mentoring graduate students

· Experience in leadership roles

· Experience with academic committees and departmental service

· Significant exposure for artwork including international exhibitions

· International professional travel and residencies
