The successful candidate will join a thriving Theatre & Dance program, which has been consistently ranked among the top 20 programs in the country by The Princeton Review in the last ten years.

Qualified candidates will hold a terminal degree (M.F.A., or Ph.D.) in an appropriate theatre discipline, and have demonstrated academic and professional experience, with significant experience as a costume designer and fabricator. Thorough knowledge of costume and crafting techniques, sewing, fitting, etc. and current professional standards, as well as current trends in theatre is a must. Experience teaching in associated areas, such as Script Analysis, Introduction to Design, and/or Introduction to Theatre, is a plus. We seek a candidate who is interested in making and supporting artistic work with and for students in a BFA/BA program in a liberal arts context.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching and be skilled in methods of engaged learning and the use of instructional technology. Duties of this tenure-track position will include some combination of teaching Costume Design, Costume Technology, basic courses in Script Analysis, and Introduction to Theatre.

In addition to teaching, Technical Theater faculty work outside of the classroom to design and build costumes, attend weekly production meetings, evening dress rehearsals, and supervise student designers, for four mainstage and one to two “second stage” productions annually. The Costume Faculty will mentor students, manage equipment and supplies, and supervise safe professional practices daily in the theatre’s costume shop.

Additional duties include participating effectively in advising, committee work, assisting in recruiting efforts, and other activities supporting FSC’s teaching and learning community. Release time is given for design projects and the successful candidate may also have the option to direct if desired.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled, but only applications received by November 1, 2024, can be assured full consideration. A complete application consists of a cover letter, curriculum vitae, portfolio, contact information for three professional references, and copies of graduate transcripts.
