Position Summary:

Postdoctoral Fellow – Mechanical Engineering

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Memphis in the area of materials characterization with applications to cavitation erosion and metal additive manufacturing. The candidate will have the opportunity to work in a large collaborative study on cavitation erosion with NSWC Carderock Division and the University of Michigan. In addition, the candidate will work at the Metal Additive Manufacturing Laboratory (MAML) at the University of Memphis.

This is a 12-month research position in the Department of Mechanical Engineering in Dr. Amir Hadadzadeh’s research lab. Send any questions about the position to Dr. Hadadzadeh at amir.hadadzadeh@memphis.edu

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or another relevant field
  • A strong academic record as evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Research experience in the following areas: microstructural characterization (SEM, EBSD, TEM) and mechanical characterization (quasi-static and high-strain rate mechanical testing, microhardness, nano-indentation)
  • Capable of printing components on the EOS-M100 and M290 L-PBF systems
  • Good skills in project planning, project management, and documentation
  • Currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment, the department will not provide sponsorship
