Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate should: demonstrate a collaborative leadership style that involves working with colleagues both within and beyond the academic unit; have the ability to/must be able to articulate an ambitious future-oriented vision for the program that includes attracting diverse new faculty and students; teach online and hybrid classes in the doctoral program and Educational Leadership program (masters’ and certificate); assist in the development and coordination for classes taught; advise and mentor students in the doctoral and educational leadership programs; serve as a member of student dissertation committees; collaborate on research in the field and build capacity and partnerships with school districts, higher education, research organizations, and agencies in Virginia, as well as across the country.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate should:

  • Have earned an appropriate terminal degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Education Policy, or other related concentration, or a related field, in-hand no later than the date of hire at JMU (August 2025). An appropriate terminal degree is not required at the time of application.
  • Demonstrate substantial experience in Educational Leadership in P-16 setting(s) or other senior leadership role(s) in an education setting.
  • Demonstrate experience with strategic planning or continuous improvement.
  • Show evidence of having an established research/scholarship agenda or have a plan for research and scholarship.
  • Demonstrate experience developing or evaluating curriculum and/or assessment.
  • Demonstrate understanding and/or research in culturally responsive pedagogy/leadership, inclusive excellence.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate successful experience teaching in higher education, online or in-person (preferred).
  • Demonstrate experience with global engagement initiatives (preferred).
  • Demonstrate experience in teaching, or willingness to teach quantitative and/or qualitative methods courses (preferred).
  • Demonstrate experience securing external funding (preferred).
