The School of Physical Therapy seeks a faculty member to deliver high-quality learning experiences and education for students in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. The faculty member will engage in teaching, scholarship and service activities, and work collaboratively with colleagues across the University. They will contribute to a progressive culture of student empowerment and growth. Through research and scholarship, the faculty member will grow the University’s reputation and visibility within the physical therapy profession. Rank and salary will be commensurate with education, experience and scholarly record.

  • Utilize dynamic and contemporary pedagogical strategies to effectively educate Doctor of Physical Therapy students and future healthcare professionals.
  • Assess student-learning with progressive formative and summative assessments that cultivate adaptive and reflective learning.
  • Integrate diversity, equity and inclusion into the curriculum, as well as co-curricular experiences, to broaden the education of students and expand their knowledge of health disparities.
  • Establish and maintain a line of scholarship that results in conference presentations, publishable manuscripts, peer-reviewed instructional materials, or other outcomes consistent with CAPTE expectations for scholarly activities.
  • Provide students with a syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies, texts and readings, assignments, timelines, and evaluation criteria.
  • Deliver didactic, laboratory and/or experiential instruction via multiple formats (in-person, online, or in a ‘blended’ format) in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program.
  • Participate in service activities, serve on University, regional, state, or national professional organization committees and volunteer activities; represent the program and University at community functions, attend School and institutional activities such as Commencement and ceremonies, and support student activities.
  • Advise and assist students through office hours or scheduled appointments, by phone or email, and through other University-approved mechanisms.
  • Participate in ongoing course development, and assessment.
  • Contribute to periodic reviews and revisions of departmental course offerings.
  • Maintain advanced knowledge in discipline and areas of expertise.
  • Participate in curriculum development and assessment.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor.

Required:

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physical Therapist in Massachusetts
  • Obtained or in candidacy for PhD, EdD, DSc preferred, DPT will be considered
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience in physical therapy
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and effectively interact with internal and external colleagues (e.g., faculty, administration/staff, alumni, and external constituents, including healthcare professionals)
  • Record of scholarly activities commensurate with an academic appointment
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment

Preferred:

  • Prior teaching experience at the college/university level
  • Evidence of teaching excellence

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical office or administrative working conditions. Faculty is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Work is primarily sedentary in nature; there are no special physical demands.
  • Work requires sitting, standing and walking as part of classroom instruction.
  • Must be able to use technology, such as typing and manipulating a mouse/mouse pad
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
