The School of Professional Studies is comprised of six departments: Education, Education Psychology, Health Promotion & Exercise Science, Justice & Law Administration, Nursing, and Social Work. Undergraduate degrees are offered in each of these professional fields, as well as Master’s degrees in Education, Education Psychology, Homeland Security, Nursing and Doctoral degrees in Education and Nursing. www.wcsu.edu/sps/. The HPX department currently offers three B.S. degree level programs in Health and Wellness Management, Public Health (with concentrations in Allied Health, Community Health, Fitness and Wellness, and Integrative and Holistic Health), Health Education (PK-12), as well as offering courses to fulfill the University’s Health and Wellness general education competency. Position Summary: Primary responsibilities will include serving as the Coordinator for the Health and Wellness Management (HWM) program, teaching major requirement courses in the HWM program and other courses as assigned, recruiting and managing internship sites for the HWM capstone course, and curricular development of a HWM track in Sports Management. Other responsibilities include advising students; serving on department, university, and community committees; and engaging in creative and professional activities.

Qualifications: Candidates for this position should provide evidence of the following qualifications:

  • A terminal degree (PhD, EdD or equivalent) in health and wellness management, sports management, exercise science or related field.
  • Documented experience in curriculum development relevant to sports management
  • Teaching experience at a four-year university/college.
  • WestConn is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for first generation and under-represented groups.
  • Additional preference will be given to applicants with:
    • Experience teaching in the areas of health and wellness management, sports management, exercise science and wellness, public/community health.
    • Previous experience supervising undergraduate interns
    • Applicants demonstrating experience working collaboratively with fellow faculty and community partners, and experience with service or experiential learning.

WCSU’s small classes allow for student-based teaching and learning and project-based activities. Standard teaching load is 24-credits per academic year (12 credits) per semester.

Salary & Benefits: The hiring salary range is $73,912 – $86,231 and is commensurate upon candidates’ experience. Western offers a comprehensive benefits package.
