Job Summary:

The Director of Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Program is responsible for the planning, developing, directing, evaluating, and coordinating the Nursing Assistant Training Program established by EMU Lancaster in accordance with current federal and state guidelines. The Director of the CNA program gives oversight of hiring, onboarding, leading, and evaluating certified adjunct instructors. This position recruits and invites new facility partnerships to continue growing community influence and synergy across the program. The Director of the CNA program is to adhere to and stay up to date with the Pennsylvania Department of Education requirements in the management, growth, and evaluation of the CNA program.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership in formulating the goals and objectives of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Program.
  • Plan, develop, direct, evaluate, and coordinate the educational curriculum for the Certified Nursing Assistant Program to meet the Federal regulations of OBRA and the State law of Act 14.
  • Direct the preparation, scheduling and selection of instructional material, equipment, and training aids to ensure that a modern, meaningful training program is provided to meet the Federal regulations of OBRA and the State law of Act 14.
  • Maintain appropriate recordkeeping documents as outlined in the course specifications as well as mandated by the Pennsylvania Department of Education
  • Plan and schedule class dates and assign instructors for CNA Program.
  • Communicate with Long Term Care administrators to facilitate/grow enrollment.
  • Partner with long-term care facilities to enlist new clinical sites for the program.
  • Interview, hire, supervise and evaluate faculty.
  • Orientation of new faculty.
  • Monitor student progress, and assess viability of student success.
  • Oversee and lead through resolving student and/or faculty challenges through restorative justice .
  • Conducts periodic and comprehensive program evaluation.
  • Facilitates (re)approval process by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
  • Participates in the compliance review process conducted by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
  • Remain current on new developments by attending professional institutions, reading professional journals, and attending professional seminars.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student records and resident care information.
  • Attend meetings and seminars as required.
  • Mentor and advise students, with a focus on supporting those from underrepresented backgrounds.
  • Engage in active research and scholarship that broadens the intellectual diversity of the department, and will develop and implement pedagogical strategies that support an inclusive learning environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to comprehend complex information in order to create queries, prepares reports, correspondence, coordinate information both manually and on the computer.
  • Ability to organize and maintain manual and computerized filing systems.
  • Attention to detail for accurately preparing and maintaining accurate records.
  • Good memory skills for recalling dates, people, events, and records in order to retrieve information for reports and files.
  • Ability to have a professional and neat appearance.
  • Ability to set goals, prioritize and organize job tasks and workload in order to meet deadlines, ability to complete work in a timely manner and communicate progress routinely with the Director of Human Resources.
  • Interpersonal skills for assisting faculty, staff, students, applicants and other visitors, and insurance vendors.
  • Ability to use a PC and mainframe, a modem and software such as payroll, Windows, Microsoft Office (specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook) for preparing and processing payroll, queries, downloading computerized information, surveys, bills, and other types of correspondence.
  • Ability to operate commonly used office equipment such as a copy machine, fax, phone, etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with a wide variety of constituents.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field required. Master’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred. Current credentials/licensure in as a Nurse Aid Training Instructor. At least one year experience in a long-term care facility (patient care) preferred. Experience in Teaching/Training required. Project Management, Program Development and/or Leadership experience preferred. Higher Education experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands and fingers, to handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The employee must occasionally travel to meetings and conferences off campus, which may include some overnight travel.
